Bailed on Google+

I deleted my Google+ account tonight. I don't seem to have a real use for it right now. I read a very narrow spectrum of things on the internet, and I'm already reading about as much of that as I want to, so its function as a delivery system for more internet content was superfluous for me. In my case, it seemed to be functioning much like Facebook, only with mostly gamers I know from online instead of mostly people I know in the meat world.

Anyway, I'll probably be back on at some point, especially if I ever succumb to the urge to run a pickup game using the video chat feature - that seems to be the one relevant feature that everyone's rightfully excited about. Beyond that, it just looks like regular social networking with a different crowd and a better content filtering system.

EDIT: Is anyone else having issues with images in their old posts disappearing, or is Google exacting its pound of flesh for me leaving?

  1. Well there's a coincidence. My wife today was setting up her Google+ page and called out "who's this Scott bloke?" I had a look and she had accepted someone's invite not realising I was logged into Google, not her. I hadn't got around to Google+ myself but somehow it automatically found you. So hello - goodbye Scott. :-)

  2. Haha, yeah, I saw her name in my circles and was like "who is that?" Believe it or not, I think I recognized the bird.

  3. On the image loss, it happened once that I lost a few images seeing the dreaded '?' and I assumed it would fix itself but it didn't and I had to resort to re-uploading. Having a quick look at your older posts you seem to have lost a fair few images. Hopefully they will simply reappear but be prepared for a patient restoration from your carefully organised image gallery.

  5. Scott, watch this vid. Crows with little arms are now my number one wizards' familiars. Funny little dudes.

  6. You so crazy.

No doubt about it, I'm a flake.

There is literally no chance that will ever happen. :) If they're gone, they're gone.

That's freaky as shit. Reminds me of Manly Wade Wellman's Ugly Bird. For some reason it also reminds me of Modest Mouse's "Satellite Skin" video (which I just read is apparently based on a dream sequence from a Kurosawa movie I haven't seen).

    Funny little dudes.

I see what you did there.

  7. I'm not a Facebook guy so the constant stream of verbal vomit on Google+ is a bit overwhelming to me. But it has already proved useful to rounding up players on the spur of the moment and for that I'm probably going to hang on (that and the Hangout feature). No way I'm going to be paying too much attention, though.

  8. This is one of my favorite game blogs. I have rarely anything to say when I read it except: "YES!"

  9. I like G+ for the social interaction with other gamers, which I don't have on facebook. Unlike facebook, where I'm inundated with posts from boring people I somehow know in real life, most of the gamers and people in my circles on G+ are actually cool and have interesting things to say/post.

I had a similar problem with my pics on G+ early on. Somehow G+ connects with the folder for your blogger images. Well, I accidentally deleted the folder from Google+, thinking I was preventing it from being shared on G+, when in actuality I was removing the images entirely.

Hope to see you back on G+ soon, Scott.
